Hasbro recognizes water as a fundamental human right and is committed to understanding our impacts on water as well as opportunities to support the communities where we operate. Our Water Stewardship Policy is designed to promote responsible water stewardship practices through three main strategies: addressing water consumption and efficiency within our Owned and Operated (“O&O”) facilities, supporting access and cleanliness of water and minimizing the use of microplastics in our products. We believe in using accurate and reliable data to inform our water stewardship strategy.
O&O Facilities: We are focusing our efforts within our O&O facilities on water reduction and efficiency. Our O&O facilities, include offices and our Distribution Centers. Water withdrawal will be the primary focus; as water used in our O&O facilities is discharged, we do not consume water, per the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. Water reduction and efficiency within our O&O facilities is a strategic choice, as we have the highest quality data and most direct influence over infrastructure.
Factories: We recognize the critical importance of clean, accessible water for our factory partners. Water issues are more salient in certain regions due to water stress levels, local infrastructure, and regional regulations. Therefore, efforts will be focused to support our partners who need it the most. In addition, we recognize that there is more we need to learn about water use within our factories and seek to enhance the data collection and accuracy from our top factory partners.
Microplastics: We are reducing the use of microplastics in our products where feasible and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. We continue to explore and implement alternatives to microplastics in our product design to mitigate their impact on marine life and the environment. Additionally, we see an opportunity to understand the impacts of manufacturing processes on local water quality.
Accountability for this policy lies with the Vice President of Environmental, Social, and Governance and Environmental Health and Safety (VP, ESG/EHS), who will oversee its implementation and ensure compliance. The ESG/Sustainability Team will lead and coordinate the execution of this policy, in partnership with the Ethical Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and Product Development Teams. The Ethical Sourcing Team addresses impacts within the supply chain, specifically with factory partners. The Quality Assurance and Product Development Teams manage microplastics reduction and regulatory compliance.
Our policy applies globally, with particular focus on regions experiencing high water stress or compromised water quality. Data from our facilities, the World Resources Institute (WRI) Water Risk Atlas, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Biodiversity Risk Filter guide our decision-making in these critical areas. Regular monitoring and reporting in our annual ESG Reporting will ensure that we track our progress and make necessary adjustments to meet our objectives.
This policy will be reviewed annually, or as needed, to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Updates will be made based on review outcomes, regulatory changes, and feedback from stakeholders. By adhering to this policy, we aim to promote responsible water management and reduce our environmental impact.
